The embodiment of SORONA's environmental value
SORONA has three environmental values. First, producing the same amount of Sorona polymer uses 30% less energy than nylon 6*, which comes from petrochemical sources. Second, producing the same amount of SORONA polymer reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 63% compared with nylon 6* from petrochemical sources. SORONA also reduces its dependence on oil and petrochemicals by using non-oil renewable sources (resources that can be grown over a year) rather than petrochemicals as feedstocks. Sorona polymers, by weight, are 37 percent made from non-petroleum renewable sources, meaning that Sorona uses 37 percent less petrochemical material than conventional petrochemical synthetic fibers. In addition, its durability and excellent performance, such as not easy to fade and deformation, make Sorona made of fibers and clothing more sustainable.
5. If 37% of SORONA is derived from renewable sources, what is the other 63% made of?
The other components (monomers) are currently made from petrochemical feedstocks. Sorona components derived from renewable resources: bio-based PDO, polymerized with DMT(dimethyl terephthalate) or TPA(terephthalate) to form Sorona polymers. Currently, both DMT and TPA are derived from petrochemical feedstocks.
