SORONA is a breakthrough bio-based polymer material developed by DuPont of the United States. 37% of its core raw materials come from renewable plant resources such as corn. Through the fermentation technology of genetically engineered bacteria, glucose is converted into 1, 3-propanediol (PDO), which is then copolymerized with petroleum-based terephthalic acid (PTA) to form polypropanediol terephthalate (PTT). This innovative process not only reduces the reliance on petroleum, but also lowers carbon emissions in the production process by 63% compared to traditional nylon and reduces energy consumption by 30%, opening up a new path for sustainable transformation in the textile industry.
Molecular structure shapes outstanding performance
The molecular chain of SORONA has a spring-like semi-crystalline structure, which endows it with unique physical properties: a high elasticity of 15% to 20%, comparable to spandex, but it can achieve long-lasting resilience without the need for a chemical coating. The UV resistance index reaches UPF50+, and it still maintains over 90% efficiency after 100 washes. The anti-pilling grade reaches 4-5, and its wear resistance is three times that of cotton. The cross-section of its fibers adopts a cross-shaped design, with nano-scale grooves distributed on the surface. This increases the contact area of the fabric with the body surface by 30%, enhances the moisture conduction rate by 50%, and dries twice as fast as pure cotton at 35℃.
